Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react with excitement to the club’s reported pursuit of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.

The Scottish Daily Mail claim the Glasgow giants are working on a deal to land the £20,000-a-week Premier League player in the summer window.

It is said that Light Blues director of football Mark Allen is keen to secure a pre-contract agreement with Arfield, 29, and make him one of the club’s first signings of the summer.

The former Falkirk player is coming to the end of his contract at Turf Moor and will be available on a free transfer in the forthcoming window.

Arfield was signed by Burnley from Huddersfield in 2013 and has been a key player for Sean Dyche’s side as they have established themselves in the Premier League top flight.

Only Ashley Barnes (97) and Ben Mee (96) have made more than Arfield’s 86 top-flight appearances for Burnley.

Rangers fans are delighted that their club are trying to land the Canada international and believe he would be a real statement signing.
