'Fantasy', I'd pay the helicopter to Glasgow myself - Rangers fans react to PL legend transfer claim

By Richard Parks

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to express their incredulity after Michael Gray claimed the club should make a shock swoop to sign Wayne Rooney.

The former left-back made the suggestion on the Jim White Show on talkSPORT on Tuesday as the duo asked callers if the England and Manchester United legend could be a target for his former England colleague and fellow Scouser Steven Gerrard.

It comes amid reports Rooney, 32, is growing frustrated with life under Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park and could quit the club this summer even though a year remains on the contract he signed only last summer.

Gray told talkSPORT: “If Wayne’s time is up at Everton, there’s no reason why Rangers shouldn’t put their name forward” and he later added that the player has the “quality” to transform the Glasgow giants.

Fans of Rangers and other clubs took to social media to react to Gray’s claim, which many dismissed as outlandish, given Rooney’s reported £160,000-a-week deal at Everton.
