Rangers fans react to speculation the club's first January signing is nailed

Rangers are closing in on the loan signing of Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral until the end of the season – and fans have reacted with enthusiasm on Twitter.

The Scottish Sun claim the Gunners youngster has indicated to Ibrox chiefs he will cut short his Granada loan and move to Scotland following a wretched spell in La Liga.

The report quotes sources in Spain as saying that Granada expect Toral to arrive at the Scottish giants’ headquarters by Sunday after an agreement was secured between the two clubs on Wednesday night.

It is said that Toral has given his approval for his season-long loan with Spanish top-tier outfit Granada to end and for him to move to Glasgow on a short-term deal instead.

Fans took to social media to praise Rangers chiefs for nailing the deal early in the January window, while the club are on their mid-season break.

Some mentioned how they were impressed with Toral’s performances while on loan at Birmingham last season, while others warned that the deal is not yet done.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Scottish Sun expect the goalscoring midfielder to make his Rangers debut in their friendly against German outfit Red Bull Leipzig on 15 January.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton knows the 21-year-old well from their Brentford days, with Toral having a successful loan season at Brentford in 2014-15 in the side that challenged for promotion to the Premier League.

The Spaniard, who is a central midfielder and was prised from the Barcelona academy in 2011, scored six goals and supplied two assists in 37 appearances for Brentford.

He also had a statistically even more impressive campaign at Birmingham last season, where he scored eight goals and supplied four assists in 38 matches and was voted the Championship club’s player of the year.

But Toral, who has returned to fitness after a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury, has made little impact at Granada and has featured in just six matches in all competitions this season.

In other Rangers transfer news, this forward arrived earlier this week after a number of bids were tabled by the Ibrox club.
