Rangers fans react angrily on Twitter as Joey Barton saga takes unexpected turn

By Will Butcher

Rangers fans have reacted angrily on Twitter after learning that Joey Barton has signed off from training due to stress.

Sky Sports revealed the news on Tuesday afternoon, reporting that the 34-year-old midfield star has failed to report for training since Friday.

Barton has endured a controversial start to life following his move from Burnley. He was suspended in September for a training ground bust up with Andy Halliday following the 5-1 Old Firm derby loss to Celtic.

The one-time England international reportedly returned to training last week, but that return has been short lived as his future with the 54-time Scottish champions plunges into even more doubt.

Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter in despondent fashion, with many blaming manager Mark Warburton and the rest of the Rangers chiefs for their efforts in handling the situation.

The former Manchester City and Newcastle star has had to endure taunts from home and away fans after an awful to life in Glasgow both on and off the pitch.

Poor performances on the pitch have led to calls claiming he was unfit, while an investigation led to Barton being charged for 44 counts of betting after joining Warburton’s side.

In other Rangers news, Celtic fans have also reacted on Twitter to the latest development in the Barton saga.
