By Harvey Byrne

Joe Garner started upfront for Rangers against St Johnstone on Wednesday, getting on the score sheet in the process – and fans were left happy on Twitter with his display.

The 28-year-old forward replaced star striker Martyn Waghorn in his side’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone at Ibrox.

Midfielder Blair Alston opened the scoring in the match for St Johnston before Garner equalised for Mark Warburton’s team.

Gers fans were left happy with what they saw from Garner with many taking to social media to hail the striker with his club song.

Garner moved to Rangers from Championship outfit Preston North End in the summer.

He was key player for the Lancashire outfit as they won promotion from League One to the Championship in the 2014-15 campaign and manager Warburton is looking for him to add goals to his Premiership team.

His goal tonight marked his second in eight appearances for the Gers following his move, as he looks to impress Warburton in his rare start.

Rangers are now sat in fifth place in Scotland’s top flight with 16 points from 10 fixtures, they are nine points behind fierce rivals Celtic and will be keen to make up the gap.
