'Clowns', 'Shambolic' - Rangers fans react to announcement on manager search

By James Black

Rangers have released a statement confirming they are no further forward with the search for a replacement manager – and Gers fans on Twitter are furious.

The Gers board released an announcement on the club’s official website on Friday night telling fans they were still awaiting further applications from interested managers.

Pedro Caixinha was sacked over a fortnight ago – with Under-20’s boss Graeme Murty taking interim charge – and fans were expecting the club to have made some sort of progress in hiring a new boss with some crucial fixtures coming up for the Light Blues.

Fans were not happy with the statement – and were not shy in letting the club know – with one calling the club’s board “clowns”.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Derek McInnes is the bookies’ favourite to take over from Caixinha but fans are worried that this latest delay could mean there is a problem with bringing McInnes back to Ibrox.

The Aberdeen manager has secured three consecutive Scottish Premiership second-place finishes at Pittodrie and led the Dons to their first trophy in 20 years when they won the Scottish League Cup in 2015.

A host of other names have been linked with the job including Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michel Preud’homme, Alex McLeish and Frank de Boer.

In other Rangers news, this South American manager is keen on the Ibrox vacancy after recently exiting an ultra-rich club.
