Rangers fans rip into Brendan Rodgers after ‘crazy’ Celtic claim
Rangers fans have torn into Brendan Rodgers after his claims about winning the Champions League after a league stage victory against Slovan Bratislava.
Rodgers led his side to a 5-1 victory at Parkhead in Europe’s premier competition, but has received stick from rival fans for his press conference claims.
The Celtic boss spoke to Sky Sports after the game as he joked: “The competition stops now and we’ll play Bayern Munich in the final!” – and was met by an awkward silence in the press room.
As the clip was shared to social media, Rangers fans immediately slammed Rodgers for over-celebrating a victory as they brought up the level of Celtic’s opponents.
Slovan Bratislava are the current champions of Slovakia, and lead their league after six games, but have not won a game in the Champions League outside of qualification games since 1992.
It was also pointed out that their squad cost less than Hibernian’s, as Gers fans put their rivals’ wide European victory into new context.
Rangers fans tear into Brendan Rodgers as Celtic record Champions League victory
After a Champions League defeat with Celtic in October 2023, Rodgers set a new record as the boss to have won the fewest games in the competition.
The win against Bratislava was just his fourth in the Champions League in 25 attempts across his spells at Celtic and Liverpool.
As a result, Rangers fans are insisting he has let the long wait for a victory go to his head, and have labelled him “embarrassing” after his “crazy” joke.
In other news, Rangers fans were left stunned as a new Ibrox image emerged on social media.
