Rangers fans’ ‘terrible’ behaviour is condemned by McAvennie

Rangers fans’ behaviour was “terrible” during their Scottish Cup quarter-final win against Hibernian on Sunday (10 March).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie suggested fans should “be happy” with the position of their club and avoid such tasteless behaviour from the terraces.

Following “abhorrent behaviour” at the Easter Road clash and previous games, Hibs released a statement revealing that they would reduce ticket allocations for away fans, noting that “everyone should be able to feel safe and comfortable attending.”

The incident was the latest issue regarding away fans’ attendance in Scottish football, with Celtic refusing to allow Rangers fans into Parkhead for their Old Firm clash in December.

Rangers fans were “not right” with the behaviour at Easter Road

McAvennie was quick to note that these problems exist in the Celtic fanbase and across football but was disheartened to see the issue rear its head again.

“We’re talking about fans swearing and chanting things in the stadium but you can hear it through the TV too,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m not going to have a go at Rangers fans because Celtic fans and other fans do it as well.

“I think some of the things they do are just terrible.

“It’s not right.

“They have a manager there who’s come in and getting on with their job – fans should be happy with that!”
