Rangers fans told ‘don’t celebrate yet’ as Aribo and Morelos tipped to leave Ibrox – Glasgow pundit

Frank McAvennie claims Rangers could still sell some first-team stars this month.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the sale of Nathan Patterson changes nothing.

Rangers announced Patterson, 20, had joined Everton for a club-record fee on Tuesday (4 January).

The Toffees have paid an initial £12million, rising to £16million with add-ons, to sign the defender.

Despite this financial boost, McAvennie claims Joe Aribo and Alfredo Morelos could still leave Ibrox this month.

“Rangers are in a nice position now,” Glasgow-based McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They don’t have to sell if they don’t want to, that doesn’t mean players will want to stay.

“If a bid comes in for Morelos or Aribo and the player wants to go, the club’s financial situation doesn’t matter.

“The player can push to go and Rangers will accept the bid. For me, the Patterson deal changes nothing in that regard.

“Aribo has been heavily linked, so I wouldn’t rule out a bid coming in.

“Morelos, well, he’s been around the world with the number of clubs who are meant to be interested in him.

“You can never rule out a bid coming in for him. I just don’t think Rangers are in a position to keep players if decent bids come in.

“I don’t think Rangers fans should celebrate just yet.”

Aribo and Morelos have been in fine form since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took over at the club.

Both players have been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League.

In other news, a second Rangers player has agreed a move to an English club after Patterson.
