Kieran Maguire: Private Rangers details are set to emerge amid release of big-money document

Rangers fans will soon be able to see exactly how successful or otherwise their kit deal with Castore has been.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Scottish champions’ legal battle with Sports Direct.

Mike Ashley-owned Sports Direct have secured the release of papers pertaining to lost earnings from the Castore deal.

Rangers are ruled to have breached a contract with Sports Direct subsidiary SDIR signed during Ashley’s time as a shareholder at Ibrox.

The Sun reported on Monday (20 December) that they could now be entitled to a multi-million settlement upon the release of the figures.

Maguire broke down exactly what Ranger fans and Sports Direct will discover in the soon-to-be-published documents.

“Most kit manufacturing deals have an annual retainer plus a commission on every unit sold,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It could be that they will now have to give more detailed information as to the number of units sold.

“There were issues initially with quality control. Whether they would have to give that information as well, I’m not so certain.

“The cash flow and the timings of when the retainers are being paid may also come out.

“This was a flagship deal for Castore. We don’t know whether off the back of that Rangers managed to extract more than the industry norm.

“Normally, a club averages about seven per cent on each unit sold. It puts Sports Direct in a powerful position.”

The next stage in the legal proceedings, which also factor in Rangers’ previous deal with Hummel, is slated for June.

Rangers entered the Castore deal in summer 2020 and the Liverpool-based firm has provided kit for the club’s 150th anniversary season.
