‘Rangers guaranteed future investment talks emerge amid major takeover update’

Rangers discussions on certain financial injections following the expected takeover have been held, according to Sky Sports News.

The American franchise’s proposed takeover is being led by Leeds’ Paraag Marathe and healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh, with excitement gathering at Ibrox.

The Union Bears have been incredibly frustrated by on-pitch performances and the behind-the-scenes decisions over the last few seasons, which has seen the Gers fall further behind Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers is often able to splash the cash during transfer windows, though Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen did not have that luxury in January or in the summer.

That is possibly what led to Clement’s demise at Ibrox, with the performances poor enough to warrant bringing Barry Ferguson in on an interim deal at Rangers until the end of the season.

With talks being held over future investments now, fans will likely be getting excited about the prospect of the 49ers taking over in Glasgow, though Rangers have already been warned about the idea of becoming a feeder club.

Rangers takeover deal agreed in principle as investment talks take place

According to Sky Sports [3 March], a deal for the 49ers to take over Rangers has now been agreed in principle, with talks ongoing since October, and there is some confidence that all can be completed ahead of next season.

It is understood that conversations have already taken place around guaranteed future investment, though any final figure will be based on European progression and player trading.

The Light Blues revealed a major loss of £17.2million last season, and with the Gers 16 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership, there is little to be positive about at Ibrox right now.

Patrick Stewart and Barry Ferguson must work together this season

Football Insider verdict

While finishing top of the Scottish Premiership is no longer an option, there is still a chance of acquiring silverware via the Europa League, especially given their form in Europe this term.

The start to Ferguson’s reign has been rather rocky, however, narrowly avoiding defeat against Kilmarnock before Rangers were shocked by Motherwell on Saturday 1 March.

With the Rangers takeover possibly just weeks away, European progression could be really important once the summer transfer window opens up.

And with Tom Lawrence, Jack Butland and Cyriel Dessers all catching criticism over the last couple of seasons, shifting deadweight this summer could also be vital for further investment.
