Rangers have agreed a brilliant Ross McCausland deal – ‘it’s a great move’

Rangers have pulled off a brilliant deal after agreeing new terms with Ross McCausland in what is a “great move”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has been impressed with the 20-year-old since Philippe Clement’s frequent selection of the midfielder.

McCausland had a tough time getting minutes under Michael Beale before his sacking in October, but the Belgian has played him in all of his league fixtures and the last two Europa League clashes.

He had reportedly been monitored by Serie A sides Roma and Atalanta before his new deal while Premier League Brentford had scouted him, but he committed his future to his boyhood club.

Hutton is happy to see a talented Scotsman stay in his home nation but maintains he must feet his feet on the ground.

“I think it’s a great move,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously for himself and for the football club. The manager has really taken a shine to him since he’s come into the club and McCausland’s talent is there for all to see.

“It was just a case of him getting that opportunity and Clement has given him that.

“With previous managers, it’s been a little bit difficult for him. Under Michael Beale, it was tough because of the signings he made – especially the ones in similar positions.

“But he’s really burst into this Rangers team and really played with a lot of freedom so it’s nice seeing he’s signed that contract.

“We know how players from Scotland can go down south for a minimal fee, which isn’t ideal, but I think this is the best place for him and it’s a brilliant deal for Rangers.

“He needs to keep his feet on the ground and work hard – the talent is there.”
