Rangers have already identified long-term Jon McLaughlin replacement after news – Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Robby McCrorie as a long-term replacement for Jon McLaughlin at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said he doesn’t see McLaughlin dislodging Allan McGregor any time soon.

McLaughlin had been first choice for Giovanni van Bronckhorst this season but has not featured between the sticks since their 4-0 Champions League defeat to Ajax on 7 September.

The Dutch boss has favoured Ibrox stalwart Allan McGregor instead.

McGregor has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Light Blues and McLaughlin’s current deal expires in 2024.

On Thursday (6 October), the Bears confirmed that McCrorie has put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at Ibrox until 2025.

Hutton insisted McLaughlin will have to fight for his place at Rangers.

It is not that long ago that he was number one,” he told Football Insider.

Due to form and different things, a little niggly injury, he is not anymore. This is what happens at big clubs.

When you have Allan McGregor breathing down your neck it is going to be hard to keep hold of the number one shirt.

Of course he will be trying every day to impress and get back in, much like Allan was. You have to kind of bide your time.

The fact of the matter is that Robbie McCrorie has just signed a new deal.

Rangers

So you would like to think he is possibly going to be the future moving forward. He is going to have to have a say in it as well as some point in time.

As long as Allan McGregor is in the form that he is in at the moment, he [McLaughlin] is not going to dislodge him.

In other news, Hutton has claimed Rangers profited from major injustice as Antonio Colak footage emerges.
