Rangers have completed two ‘high-quality’ deals – finance expert
Rangers have now got a high-quality executive team in place following the appointments of Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider those hires reinforce the quality of the Scottish giants as a major football club.
Rangers announced on 14 December Thornton would begin his role as their new chairman on 16 December.
The chartered accountant, who has experience working in the drinks industry, has replaced interim chairman John Gilligan after he temporarily took on the role following John Bennett’s departure earlier this season.
Thornton has joined Stewart at Ibrox after the former Manchester United chief was recently confirmed as the club’s new CEO.
Rangers chiefs to work on tackling financial issues
Borson admitted the duo now need to work out how to tackle some of the financial issues facing Scottish clubs.
He told Football Insider: “It’s important they have got that high-quality executive team in place after the departures.
“They are not scrambling around for second-tier reputations.
“They are hiring extremely high-quality people.
“I just think it reinforces the quality of the Rangers brand as a major football club.
“People have still got to work out how you deal with some of those problems that they have got in Scottish football, and the impact of European football with the difference it makes.

“That is really the issue that Scottish clubs are grappling with.
“When you have got Champions League being such a distorting element, how do you make that work if you are a team that’s not in the Champions League every season?”
