Rangers have Jack Butland alternative in place after source’s talks reveal – expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Robby McCrorie is “more than capable” of being the number one goalkeeper at Rangers next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said now is McCrorie’s “big opportunity” to prove he is capable of replacing Allan McGregor.
McGregor, 41, is out of contract in the summer and is set to hang up his gloves and leave Ibrox.
Second choice Jon McLaughlin has had his opportunities this season but it was 25-year-old McCrorie who replaced McGregor for the 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday (7 May).
On 29 April, Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues have opened talks over signing on-loan Man United keeper Jack Butland this summer, who will become a free agent when his loan to Crystal Palace expires.
Butland is believed to be “very keen” to join the Gers after struggling for game time in recent years.
But when asked if McCrorie has what it takes to fill the number one spot at Ibrox, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think this is what Beale is trying to find out.
“This is his opportunity and it is about him going and grabbing it with both hands.
“I thought he did really well, he had some big moments in the game, made a big save. He looked confident, assured, everything you want in a goalkeeper.

“He obviously knows there is an opportunity to be Rangers’ number one next season. It is up to him to go and prove that.
“If he can go and put in another good performance then he is putting down a marker to say that he is more than capable of handling it.“
