Rangers have just signed up their James Milner after news from Ibrox – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Rangers Connor Goldson and Steven Davis are the “Jordan Henderson and James Milner” of Rangers after signing new contracts.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Gers duo are “very important” both on and off the pitch.
Rangers confirmed last week (31 May) that Davis, 37, has signed a new one-year deal to stay at Ibrox.
The club followed that up with news that Goldson, 29, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal.
Whelan insisted the duo offer so much more than just footballing ability and compared their influence to that of Henderson and Milner at Liverpool.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’d probably say they’re more important players. They’re more important in certain areas of the field that you need.
“They’re leaders, they’re captains, they’re voices. I think those sorts of players are probably a lot more important than some of the players that are there now.
“They’re the sort of players like your Milners and your Hendersons. They’re the Hendersons and Milners of Glasgow Rangers. I think they’re very important to the football club.
“Even if they can’t play all the games in the season, just being there, they’ve got that leadership and professionalism about them they bring to the club and the other players.”

Both Goldson and Davis were into the final months of their contracts at Ibrox before signing new deals.
Scott Arfield and Jon McLaughlin have also committed their futures to the club since the turn of the year.
In other news, Football Insider can reveal Rangers have made an approach to sign England-based defender.
