Rangers have made Scott Arfield ‘mistake’ after confirmed news – pundit
Letting Scott Arfield leave Rangers was a “mistake”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said the Gers shouldn’t have allowed Arfield’s contract to run down.
Last month (23 May), the Gers confirmed that Arfield, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos are all leaving the club following the expiration of their contracts.
Steven Davis, whose contract is also expiring, will continue to work with the club’s medical team as he aims to get back to full fitness following a long-term ACL injury.
Arfield, 34, made 43 appearances for the Gers across all competitions this season but was only in the starting lineup for 12 of those matches.
The Canada international netted nine goals for the Light Blues this season, including scoring one of only two goals in what turned out to be a disastrous Champions League campaign.
Since his arrival at Ibrox from Burnley in 2018, Arfield made 233 appearances for the Scottish club across all competitions and scored 43 goals in those outings.
McAvennie insisted the Gers shouldn’t be letting the midfielder go.
“I liked Scott Arfield and I think letting him go is a mistake,” he told Football Insider.

“I liked him and I thought he was a good player.
“I do not know where he is going to go from here, maybe America. He could finish his career off there. I think he would do well over there and make decent money.“
