Rangers hit by ‘massive blow’ as new Ryan Jack return date revealed – pundit

Rangers have suffered a “massive blow” with the news Ryan Jack won’t play again in 2021.

That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update from Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

As confirmed by Van Bronckhorst on Tuesday (14 December), Jack will be out of action until after the winter break.

The midfielder returned from his long-term calf injury in November but suffered a setback in training.

McAvennie admits he is a huge fan of Jack and hopes he is ready to go by the end of the winter break.

“It was a really bad injury and Rangers have to be so careful,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You can’t throw players in when they aren’t ready. I’m not saying that did happen.

“But I saw it with Tierney at Celtic. You need to let those players sit out of the team for as long as possible.

“It’s been a massive blow for Rangers this season, Jack is one of those specialist players.

“I really rate Jack, he does a lot of things that go unnoticed. I have a lot of time for him.

“If he can come back after the break then it will make a massive second half of the season slightly easier.

“Jack’s continued absence is a massive blow, as I said, I feel for him because he’s such a good player.

“You just hope he’s absolutely ready to go when the football starts again.”

Jack underwent surgery on a calf injury back in May.

He has managed to make just three appearances this season after returning to fitness.
