Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Portugal youth international Umaro Balde, Football Insider understands.
The Sporting Lisbon starlet, 16, is set to secure a scholarship contract from the Glasgow giants after impressing the club’s coaches during an extended trial.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that midfield enforcer Balde is already at the club’s Auchenhowie training headquarters and Rangers are confident of signing him permanently this summer.
Balde will immediately slot into the youth team set-up and he could be among the rising stars at the club who join Steven Gerrard’s senior squad at their pre-season training camp next month.
The rising star is being prised from the academy at Portugese big hitters Sporting, whose famous graduates include all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rangers are set to beef up their youth team as the club look for a bigger return on the significant investment during the Dave King era into the Academy system at the Hummel Training Centre.
The club are eager for a consistent supply line of youngsters who are able to take the next step and graduate into the first team, something that has been notably absent in recent seasons.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been hit by a major blow as prime attacking target agrees to join English club.
