Rangers in discussions for last-gasp deal after deadline has passed

Rangers chiefs are still working hard to secure one final deal for the January window after Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Ibrox outfit have been pushing to strengthen their squad in recent weeks for the imminent run-in of the Premiership title race, and they managed four incomings before the deadline on Monday.

Rangers secured the arrival of Ryan Naderi in the final moments of the window, as the German became their fourth new addition, after Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen.

Danny Rohl appears to be satisfied with the new faces that have come through the door in Govan, but that hasn’t stopped him and the hierarchy from trying to do one final piece of business.

Rangers trying to terminate Rabbi Matondo contract

Rabbi Matondo has been an outcast at Rangers for several months now, as he has played just one minute of competitive football since the start of the season.

There were high hopes for the winger when he arrived from Schalke in the summer of 2022, but a series of injuries and inconsistency on the pitch have seen him fall to the fringes of the squad.

Matondo left Rangers in January 2025 for a loan spell with Hannover in the German second tier, and this time around, he could be set to leave Ibrox for good, despite the winter deadline having already passed.

Rangers are set for further discussions with the Wales international on Tuesday in an attempt to strike an agreement to terminate his contract, according to the Rangers Review.

The 25-year-old’s current contract is due to run until the summer, but Gers chiefs are keen to see his spell in Glasgow brought to a close six months early, and have begun working towards a last-gasp deal as a result.

Matondo to follow other last-minute exit at Rangers

Clinton Nsiala has struggled for gametime at Rangers so far this season amid the fierce competition for places in Rohl’s backline of late.

The youngster has managed just three brief substitute appearances in the league, and was quickly outlined for a potential loan departure at the start of January.

Rangers were finally able to facilitate that for Nsiala in the final hours of the winter window, as he joined Belgian side Westerlo on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has not quite developed as expected in recent years, and Westerlo have an option to turn that loan deal into a permanent one in the summer, as Rangers look to offload him for good.
