Rangers have opened preliminary talks to sign Sporting Lisbon starlet Umaro Balde, Football Insider understands.
The Glasgow giants are exploring a deal for the Portugal youth international, who is 16 and able to sign professional terms when he turns 17 in October.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that Balde is already at the club’s Auchenhowie training headquarters to undergo a trial and try to impress the club’s coaches.
Balde is a central midfielder in the youth set-up at Portugese big hitters Sporting, whose famous academy graduates include all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rangers are looking to strengthen their youth-team ranks this summer following significant investment, in terms of both time and money, into the Academy system at the Hummel Training Centre during the Dave King era.
The results have been mixed over the last week as the Under-18s lifted the Youth Cup and Under-20s lost in the Glasgow Cup as the Old Firm bragging rights were shared.
In other Rangers transfer news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing at St. Johnstone player in the form of his life.
