Odds tumble: Rangers installed second favourites to Celtic in race for goalscoring midfielder
By Alex Stevens
Rangers have been installed as the second favourites in the race to sign John McGinn from Hibernian this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Bet Victor have narrowed the odds of Rangers signing McGinn from 10/1 to 5/1, making them second only to bitter rivals Celtic, who are priced at 3/1.
Second-placed Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen are 8/1 in the betting, ahead of English Championship pair Newcastle and Derby, who are both 10/1.
The drop in Rangers’ odds to land McGinn comes amid report that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is lining up a smash-and-grab raid for the central midfield dynamo.
The Express claim the Scottish champions are preparing a £1.5million offer for the 22-year-old in an attempt to fend off interest from rival clubs and those south of the border, including Sunderland.

It is said that Rodgers has been impressed at McGinn’s role in driving the team’s return to the Scottish Premiership as winners of the Championship.
Glasgow-born McGinn has made a big impression at the Edinburgh outfit since joining from St Mirren in the summer of 2015.
He has won three full Scotland caps and provided further evidence of his development with five goals and nine assists from midfield in 36 domestic matches this season.
It has been reported that Hibs are willing to offer McGinn a lucrative new contract in a bid to tie him down beyond his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2019.
In other Celtic transfer news, the deal is all but done for a proven Premier League performer to sign for the Scottish giants.
