Kieran Maguire hails Rangers after Bisgrove announces latest development

Rangers have proven themselves “very smart” in capitalising on their far-reaching fanbase with their latest commercial venture.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively as the club announced the opening of a new store in Belfast.

In an accompanying statement, commercial director James Bisgrove explained why the club had chosen to zero in on the Northern Irish capital.

He wrote: “there are 160 [Rangers] supporters clubs in Northern Ireland which is the highest density of supporters clubs globally only second to Greater Glasgow.”

Steve Gerrard later revealed that Rangers are planning a friendly against Northern Ireland Football League Side Linfield.

Maguire lauded the club’s vision and claimed that they have struck while the iron is hot in terms of their success on the pitch this season.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s a matter of knowing where you’ve got a significant supporter base.

“Then it’s a matter of making yourself available to them. The thing is, you come in for one item and you leave with three or four from these places.

“That’s one of the benefits of having a bricks-and-mortar based selling point as opposed to one online.

“They have been very smart to take advantage of their footballing ascendancy this season.

“Rangers deservedly won the title and they could still go unbeaten. They have a very good ambassador in Steven Gerrard too.”

Rangers have secured 14 different commercial partners this season, taking their overall number of sponsorship deals to beyond 30.

The club announced on Wednesday that they had renewed their shirt sponsorship deal with bookmaker 32Red.
