Rangers legend Alex McDonald has revealed he dreams of an entire team of Joey Bartons.
The European Cup Winners Cup legend likens himself to the former England international and is convinced he will be a solid addition to Mark Warburton’s team.
Barton signed a two-year contract with the Scottish giants last week after completing a free transfer from Burnley.
McDonald is an admirer of Barton’s commitment and never-say-die attitude, and believes the scouser’s outspoken nature is exactly what Rangers need.
“I think his signing is absolutely brilliant,” McDonald told the official Rangers website. “Personally I would have liked another nine like him; he is my type of player.
“I haven’t seen much of him play but from what I have seen I think it’s a good move from the club. There is no question that he is the type of player Rangers needed.
“I think any player could fit into the team right now, the movement is good and the players are very aware of each other so I don’t think he’ll have any trouble bedding in.
“It is down to the manager who comes in and hopefully there will be a few more but I think they needed a bit of experience in the bigger league.
“I think his character will be a positive, everybody loves to see what people write or say and I think he is the character to do that and he will have more followers than he thinks he will have if he says the right things.”
Barton, 33, played a key role in Burnley’s Championship title in the recently completed domestic season but rejected a one-year extension and the chance to play for the club in the Premier League.
In other Rangers news, the club have been given fresh hope in their bid to sign a former Arsenal 22-year-old.
