Meanwhile, after scoring in Atalanta’s win over Roma, the 27-year-old wrote on Instagram [13 May]: “Recently” alongside a football emoji, showing that he has enjoyed his recent run of good form.

The post attracted likes from both Rangers defender Balogun and Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley.

Balogun could be set to stay at Rangers

The Light Blues are set to endure a summer of change as 49ers Enterprises continue to close in on their takeover of the Scottish Premiership giants.

Rangers will be determined to get their next managerial appointment right, while current Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti remains firmly in the frame.

Meanwhile, Balogun’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire this summer, and he could leave Glasgow on a free transfer if he does not renew his terms.

The 36-year-old remains a key figure at Rangers and featured in both legs as Barry Ferguson’s men took on Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Former Hibernian and Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough has suggested that the Bears should renew the Nigeria international’s contract ahead of next season.

The ex-Brighton man has featured in both of the Light Blues’ last two fixtures, including an Old Firm clash with Celtic on 4 May, which finished in a 1-1 draw.
