Rangers likely to accept Connor Goldson offer after Birmingham talks – sources

Rangers are increasingly likely to accept an offer from Connor Goldson this summer with Birmingham City leading the race to him ahead of Saudi clubs.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed there is a lot of doubt regarding his future at Ibrox and a return to England is a strong possibility.

Football Insider previously revealed that there is interest from Birmingham, who are looking to bounce back to the Championship immediately.

It is believed that the recently-relegated League One outfit have discussed a contract proposal with the defender’s camp.

Goldson did link up with his teammates in Holland recently for pre-season, but his future is very much up in the air right now.

With Rangers dealing with the difficulties going on with Ibrox right now, the club is being stretched financially.

That is why the Gers must decide whether to keep the 31-year-old or sell him to reinvest in the squad.

Rangers would be losing a key squad member in Connor Goldson

Goldson has been at Rangers since 2018, going on to make 309 appearances for the club since as an ever-present member of the squad.

Last season he featured 48 times across all competitions, proving his importance to Philippe Clement.

Birmingham aren’t the only club interested in him as Football Insider revealed that Al Ettifaq also would like to sign the central defender, which increases the pressure on Rangers.

Rangers

The club’s focus is currently split due to the ongoing situation with Ibrox as the stadium will not be ready for the start of the season due to delays in shipment materials.

Football Insider revealed that the Gers are now expected to start the season playing at Hampden Park until their own ground is sorted.
