Rangers loanee Fabio Silva set to join new club – sources

Rangers are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal to sign Fabio Silva this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Silva is likely to be heading elsewhere, to a new club, once his loan at Ibrox comes to an end.

The Portuguese U-21 international has been largely disappointing since joining the Gers on loan from Wolves in the January transfer window.

Rangers had previously been planning to make a permanent move for Silva after Football Insider revealed last month they intended to contact the English Premier League club to enquire about a cut-price deal.

That now doesn’t look likely to be the case, with the 21-year-old expected to return to Molineux at the end of the season.

The forward is under contract with Wolves until 2026.

Rangers unlikely to sign Fabio Silva after fans’ criticism

Silva would likely have been hoping to make more of an impact at Rangers after registering just five goals in his 23 appearances.

The Portuguese has failed to kick on with his career since signing for Wolves in a £35million deal in 2020.

He’s come under criticism from the Gers fans over the past few months for his performances, with many making their feelings known they wouldn’t like the club to sign him on a permanent basis.

O’Rourke admitted Rangers need to qualify for the Champions League group stages next season to ensure there isn’t a big difference in revenue between themselves and Celtic after their Old Firm rivals claimed the Scottish Premiership title and an automatic group-stage place.

The Light Blues would likely be able to sign a better calibre of player if they were to secure a spot in European football’s elite competition.

Philippe Clement has revealed he is planning a “big” rebuild at Ibrox ahead of the transfer window reopening in a matter of weeks.

Football Insider revealed on 14 May the club are closing in on a deal for Levski Sofia centre-back Jose Cordoba as they aim to get some early transfer business concluded.

In other news, John Lundstram now expected to leave Rangers after “whispers”.
