Rangers-mad pundit lambasts Goldson after 'alarming' teammate confession

Alan Hutton has slammed Connor Goldson for calling out his Rangers teammates in the aftermath of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Hibernian.

The former Gers defender and lifelong fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 28-year-old should have been “banging heads together” in the dressing room than out in public.

Speaking after the League Cup semi-final loss, as quoted by talkSPORT (22nd November), Goldson questioned the desire of his teammates.

He accused certain players of not working hard enough after winning the league title last season.

Addressing Sunday’s defeat, he singled out the players for blame, insisting they let the management down.

Hutton insisted Goldson’s own performances have not been up to scratch this season.

He suggested the defender should have kept his thoughts behind closed doors.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “To hear those comments, it was a bit alarming, to be quite honest. This is from a senior figure, a guy who very rarely misses games.

“He was outstanding last season and he’s had a massive dip in form this one. He needs to get back to basics, everybody does.

“Me personally, I would be banging heads together at half-time.

“You’re lucky enough you’ve got a goal back. Rangers could go and score two goals in the second half no problem.

“You get them going at half-time, you get up for it and you go out there and you prove to everyone why you should be playing at Rangers.

“There’s a new manager in the crowd, go and show him that you deserve a place moving forward. None of them did that. That should be enough in itself.

“They need to pull in one direction and get their heads on it because they’ve got another huge game coming up.”
