Rangers have pulled out of the race to sign Graeme Shinnie as he closes in on a free transfer to Derby County, Football Insider understands.
Football Insider revealed last month that the English Championship outfit were leading the race to land the 27-year-old left-back ahead of the summer window.
Shinnie has been subsequently pictured being given a guided tour of Pride Park in images circulating on social media over the last 24 hours.
The likes of Sheffield United and Bristol City have made offers for Shinnie, but a source close to the club has told Football Insider that Derby have leapfrogged their Championship rivals and a deal is close to being agreed for the Scotland international’s signature.
The source added that Rangers have accepted defeat in their pursuit of the wide man after his availability on a free alerted their director of football Mark Allen.
Left-back Shinnie, who can also play in midfield, has yet to agree a new deal at Aberdeen and he has been free to talk to other clubs since January.
His versatility and experience are attractive to clubs north and south of the border, and the Dons privately accept he is bringing his four-year association with the club to an end.
In other Rangers transfer news, it can be REVEALED that an Ibrox 26-yr-old whose name regularly sang by fans is to be told to find new club.
