Rangers have announced two home friendlies this summer as Steven Gerrard’s side step up preparations for the new campaign – confirming Gerrard’s Ibrox debut will come against Bury on July 6th.
The Ibrox giants confirmed two games on their official website, with Wigan also travelling north to face the Light Blues.
The Championship side head to Ibrox three weeks later on July 29th as Gerrard’s final chance to fine-tune his side ahead of the Scottish Premiership campaign starting the following weekend.
Football Insider verdict:
The two games are a perfect chance for Gerrard to get his squad ready ahead of the season and bring the new signings into the squad for the first time. While fans might have preferred more glamorous opposition, the two games will provide a tough test. Wigan had an impressive season last season as they lifted the League One title and reached the quarter-final of the FA Cup. With the Europa League qualifying starting six days after Bury come to Glasgow, it will be a good chance to see how Gerrard sets his team up. With questions over who he is going to pick in certain positions, the Bury clash should give an indication to Gerrard’s starting XI. The Gers will likely have a game during their training camp in Spain too as they prepare for a title challenge and stop bitter rivals Celtic’s domination of Scottish football in recent years.
