‘Rangers make Philippe Clement sack decision’ – four contenders to take over

Philippe Clement will be sacked by Rangers if they are eliminated from the Europa League amid growing pressure on his position.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the competition is Clement’s “get out of jail free card” as things stand.

However, as they have dropped 13 points behind Celtic in the league and were knocked out of the Scottish Cup at home against Queens Park, his position is now “vulnerable”.

Brown went on to explain that this Rangers side do not look like they can handle pressure, and admitted he was not surprised to see them eliminated from the Scottish Cup.

Clement has come under intense scrutiny throughout his time at Ibrox, with large sections of the fans unhappy with the direction of the club under his leadership.

Now, the boss’ position is growing ever-more questionable and the trigger will be pulled if his side are knocked out of the Europa League.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 3 January that there are already four candidates in the running to replace the manager should he lose his job.

Philippe Clement will be sacked after Rangers ‘nightmare’

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 9 February that Clement’s future will be based on how competitive they can be in Europe after their domestic struggles.

Brown, who has worked closely with a number of top managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ron Atkinson and David Moyes, echoed those claims as he insisted their outside chance in Europe is keeping him in the job for now.

His positions at Rangers always looks vulnerable to me,” he told Football Insider.

“You’re always at risk as a manager when results aren’t going your way.

“They qualified for the next round of the Europa League, and that might be his get out of jail free card which keeps him in the job for now.

“But if they lose their next game in Europe, then I expect he will be sacked.

“They’re 13 points behind Celtic, they’ve been knocked out of the Scottish Cup, then if they blow it in Europe too, things aren’t looking good.

“That’s when these things tend to happen.

“While they’re still in Europe, there’s still an outside bit of hope that they can maybe do something special.

“But they don’t strike me as a side who can handle pressure, and disaster results like that one against Queens Park don’t surprise me.

“It always feels like there’s a nightmare around the corner there.”

Ibrox crowd lead calls for new manager amid board pressure

Rangers supporters have led the calls for Clement to lose his job, as many feel the decision has now become “inevitable” after the Queens Park defeat.

Football Insider reported on 10 February that the fans have been left raging, with many calling upon the board to “show some leadership” and make the decision.

Large sections of the crowd at Ibrox have been calling for the manager’s head for a while given the ever-growing competitive gap between Rangers and Celtic.

However, as things stand, the board have yet to make their decision despite the pressure from the stands, as questions remain about their role in the club’s decline.
