‘Rangers make worrying financial move’ – ‘this is not a good sign’
Rangers fans are dreaming of a potential buyout which could transform the club’s fortunes after spending recent years in Celtic’s shadow.
The Glasgow giants are subject to takeover interest from 49ers Enterprises – who own English Championship side Leeds United.
In the meantime, Football Insider revealed on 19 February that Rangers have received a £3.6million injection from their current owners in the form of a new share issue.
The Ibrox club have made a number of similar moves in recent years and reported a £17.2million loss for the 2023-24 season back in October of last year.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed why the share issue is “worrying”.

Rangers share issue suggests ‘cash flow issues’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted the share issue could mean “cash flow issues” at Rangers.
The Ibrox club sit second in the Scottish Premiership and have reached the round of 16 in the Europa League – where they will face Fenerbahce across two legs.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think this is pretty much petty cash into the Rangers coffers.
“It’s a pretty worrying sign.
“There’s no immediate need, the transfer window is shut. I don’t know what they owe in transfer fees or what investments they need to make at Ibrox.
“But it looks to me like cash flow issues, which is not a good sign.
“Rangers are poised – it’s going to be an interesting situation with the 49ers, and I’m going to be watching it closely.”

Gerrard ‘would be perfect Rangers appointment’
Former Ibrox striker Mark Hateley has insisted Steven Gerrard would be the perfect manager to lead Rangers forward following a potential takeover.
Gerrard spent three rather successful years at Ibrox, stealing the Scottish Premiership trophy away from Old Firm rivals Celtic in the 2020-21 season.
