Murty has perfect chance to set a marker for rest of Rangers season v Aberdeen
Rangers return to domestic action after the winter break when they face Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and it is a real chance for manager Graeme Murty to set down a marker for the rest of the season.
Murty has made four new signings so far this month as he rebuilds the squad he inherited from Pedro Caixinha in October.
After Derek McInnes turned down the opportunity to replace Caixinha, the game will also have an extra dimension with Murty wanting to prove the Gers ended up with the right man.
With Murty only having the reins until the summer, it’s a major chance for him to get off on the right foot as the Ibrox giants look to consolidate second in the league and make up ground on runaway leaders Celtic.
A win over the Dons would see Rangers leapfrog Derek McInnes’ side in the table and would be the perfect start to the year for the Light Blues after a disappointing 2017.
The Gers have a busy few weeks coming up and a winning start to the year would be a great way to kickstart the season as Murty’s side look to build some momentum and impress between now and the end of the season.
Murty could well end up as manager on a long-term basis if he can take the Gers into second while a run in the Scottish Cup would do the former Scotland international’s chances no harm whatsoever.
In other Rangers news, fans have reacted after this midfield dynamo underwent a medical to complete his switch.
