Rangers may ‘unearth a superstar’ in Malik Tillman amid ‘hostile’ claim – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed the “hostile” environment at Rangers could “unearth a superstar” in Malik Tillman.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker suggested that the Gers’ newest signing could thrive in front of a big crowd at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed (15 July) the signing of Malik Tillman, 20, on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

The loan deal includes an option to buy.

The USA international becomes Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

The midfielder joins Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence, Antonio Colak and John Souttar at the Glasgow club.

Only John Souttar has previously played in the Scottish Premier League.

When asked if he thought the new signings could handle the pressure of the Scottish top flight, McAvennie told Football Insider: “The boys that they’re bringing in are cheap.

“That doesn’t mean anything because they could relish the fact that they’re playing for Rangers in front of 50,000 fans every week.

They might go out there and just turn it on. You never know until you get in the atmosphere.

I’ll reserve judgement on that because you don’t know until you’ve seen them in front of that crowd.

Rangers

One thing is for sure, they will never have played in a hostile environment like Ibrox. If you’re big enough to handle that, some players will thrive on that.

They might unearth a superstar but we won’t know until we see them.

In other news, McAvennie has claimed Rangers are spending money they don’t have amid emphatic Alfredo Morelos claim.
