Report: Rangers six-figure swoop is done deal, update on scheduled medical
Rangers have completed a deal to sign Hamilton playmaker Greg Docherty, but it will not be completed until he passes a medical tomorrow (Thursday), according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that the Light Blues’ swoop for Docherty, 22, will now go through 24 hours later than expected after originally reported that it would be finalised on Wednesday when he was said to be due a medical.
It is understood that Hamilton had accepted a six-figure bid worth £650,000 for the Scotland Under-21 international and he will become Graeme Murty’s sixth signing of the January transfer window on Thursday now instead.
Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin have all been welcomed to Ibrox this month while Declan John has made his loan stay from Cardiff into a permanent one.
Docherty has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Hamilton this season, scoring three goals and supplying six assists in the process.
He scored on his last outing for the Accies on New Year’s Eve against Motherwell, and that may well now be the midfielder’s final ever appearance for the club he had been at since the age of nine.
Football Insider verdict
Even if Docherty was signed on Wednesday, it would have been unlikely that he would have been in the squad for the game against Aberdeen at Ibox. It’s not a major setback or anything just to have the moved delayed by 24 hours and it is good to see that Murty is now getting another central midfielder. Injuries to Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack have left the Gers short in that area of the field so extra depth is needed. Docherty is a good player and has a lot of potential that he can reach at Ibrox. Murty and Mark Allen have worked wonders this month.
