Rangers 24-yr-old is struggling, Celtic January signing would have been perfect replacement
Celtic completed the most confusing deal of the transfer window on deadline day when they signed off on a three-way swap deal involving Scott Bain, Scott Allan and Simon Murray between the Hoops, Dundee and Hibernian – but Rangers missed out by not making a move for goalkeeper Bain before he ended up a Bhoys player.
The former Dundee keeper fell out of favour with Dundee boss Neil McCann and agreed a season-long loan deal with Hibs before Celtic stepped in and arranged a deal that saw the keeper arrive at Celtic Park.
Wes Foderingham is the undisputed number one at Ibrox with Jak Alnwick as back-up but the signing of Bain would have increased the quality of competition for Foderingham and kept the former Swindon star on his toes.
Alnwick, 24, struggles to convince that he would make a reliable number one should something happen to Foderingham and, after 12 months at the club, it’s clear he isn’t going to challenge for the gloves on a regular basis.
Celtic January signing Bain isn’t as good as Foderingham but would definitely have been an improvement on Alnwick and has shown in the past he is a solid goalkeeper and would have been a fairly cheap option either permanently or on loan.
