With Jordan Rhodes reportedly up for sale this summer, Rangers need to be at the front of the queue to land the hitman in a deal which will see the forward make a return to Scotland.
The 28-year-old has endured a miserable season up front for Sheffield Wednesday following his switch to the Owls from Middlesbrough last summer.
Six goals in 32 outings has seen his future cast into doubt and after failing to live up to the hype so far, his hefty salary has meant the club are now looking at suitors.
Rhodes would be a perfect fit at Ibrox.
A proven goalscorer at Championship level, prior to his move to Wednesday, Rhodes amassed an impressive 91 goals in 189 games for Blackburn and Middlesbrough.
If he can recapture anything like that kind of goalscoring form, he will become a hero at Rangers.
With Kenny Miller unlikely to continue for much longer, Jason Cummings a loan arrival, and the possibility of another multi-million-pound bid for Alfredo Morelos, the Light Blues could be left short in attack this summer.
And Rangers can use the money generated through the potential sale of the Colombian hitman to finance a permanent or loan move of the former Balckburn ace who is under contract until 2020.
