‘Rangers’ new Nico Raskin price tag is wrong by £10m – it’s nowhere near realistic’
Nico Raskin’s impressive Rangers form has not gone unnoticed across Europe with reported interest in the Belgian reaching new heights this summer.
Football Insider understands that Rangers have set a £25million asking price for Raskin – who is under contract at Ibrox until 2027.
Aston Villa and Leeds United are among the Premier League clubs to be linked with the 24-year-old, while European giants Porto, Marseille and Fiorentina have recently joined the race to sign the midfielder.
Football Insider has revealed (18 June) that new Rangers boss Russell Martin is keen to build his side around in-demand duo Hamza Igamane and Raskin.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Raskin leaving would have a “big impact” on Rangers’ prospects for the 2025-26 campaign.
Rangers will accept £15m Raskin bid, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed an asking price of £25million is “nowhere near realistic”.
Raskin hit five goals and notched 11 assists for Rangers and captained the Scottish giants on multiple occasions last term.
Wyness claimed a bid of £15million will likely be enough to get a deal done.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he was their best player of the season.
“To let him go would have a big impact at Rangers.
“I don’t think £25million is nowhere near realistic. I’m looking at Raskin as more of a £15million purchase.
“£15million would be a good because if you’re looking at Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy now, both have got very big experience with very limited budgets for many years.
“With their Everton experience, they had to shop in these sort of markets and find the talent. And that’s what’s good for Rangers, they’ve got those two now working on that and I think it’s perfect for them.
“Raskin, I think, would be one that Russell would probably want to keep. I think he’s his type of player, he was the best player of the season and I think he’d be very important for Rangers midfield.
“He’s somebody who you could almost build a squad – not necessarily around – but certainly make him a major part of it.”
Rangers given Coady green light
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (15 June) that Rangers have been given encouragement in their efforts to sign Conor Coady as Leicester City are believed to be open to his sale.
Coady, 32, has entered the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium and Leicester view him as a sellable asset.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 9 June that Rangers have enquired about Coady’s availability as they plan to bolster their defensive ranks.
