Rangers news: Alex Lowry told to not get ‘greedy’ after source’s £250,000 wages reveal – pundit

Alex Lowry should not be “greedy” and sign a new Rangers contract, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender claimed Lowry would be a substitute for a Premier League’s Under-23s side if he quit Rangers for a club south of the border.

An Ibrox source told Football Insider last week (11 April) that they have offered the 18-year-old a new contract worth over £250,000-a-year.

His current deal expires next summer and Rangers want him to commit to the club until 2025.

They are aware of interest from English clubs for the midfielder who has already made three appearances for the first team under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

“I’ve always said about young players, you’ve got to look at it and think if you go to a Premier League side what is going to happen?” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Jack Clarke left Leeds to go to Spurs and it hasn’t worked in any way, shape or form.

“You go from being on the verge of playing and breaking through to being a substitute for the Under-23s. It doesn’t work.

“The most important thing for a young player is to play and that’s why they go out on loan.

“Don’t get greedy too soon. Wait another year, become a regular and then you can make your move.

“That’s what I would always suggest. Don’t be blinded by the big club too early. If you’re good enough you’ll get that move, it will come about. You don’t need to make that move at this age. Wait until you’re 21 or 22.”

In other news, Rangers have been tipped to accept a £16million Alfredo Morelos offer after a source’s reveal.
