Rangers news: Club ‘should be sanctioned’ after ‘mad’ development – pundit

Dundee must be sanctioned after they twice failed to fulfil their home clash against Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie slaughtered the Dee and claimed it was “wrong” that their pitch was not suitable to play on.

The game was originally meant to take place on 17 March, but the rescheduled match on 10 April also was not fulfilled due to the waterlogged pitch at Dens Park.

This led Rangers to release a statement damning Dundee’s “negligence and unprofessionalism” for “repeatedly breaching SPFL rules”.

Dundee must land sanction after ‘mad’ Rangers postponement

While fans, pundits and managers were outraged, the Gers only managed to take a point when the game finally played out – a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night (17 April).

However, McAvennie urged the Scottish FA to force Dundee to make the needed upgrades to their pitch and was adamant the sixth-placed side should land a fine.

“Dundee should be sanctioned,” he told Football Insider.

“It was ridiculous what was happening up there.

“You couldn’t have just given Rangers the points – that’s too much.

“I also heard some idiots say that they should have played the game at Ibrox – it’s supposed to be a home game for Dundee!

“But what Dundee have done, it’s just wrong that they’ve not been fined.

“The SFA should have been in there telling them to sort their ground out.

“I just don’t get it, it was just madness.”
