Rangers news: Expert issues '100%' verdict on Kemar Roofe comeback after training ground reveal

Alex McLeish has insisted Rangers must wait for Kemar Roofe to be “100 per cent” before bringing him back from injury.

The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want the 29-year-old back as soon as possible after his impressive recent form.

Roofe has sat out the Gers’ last four games due to a knee injury.

As confirmed by Van Bronckhorst at his pre-match press conference (4 May), the striker was given a the final training session to prove his fitness for Thursday’s squad against RB Leipzig.

However, he was ultimately left out as the Gers ran out 3-1 winners.

McLeish suggested even a “99 per cent” fit Roofe would not be enough for Rangers.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think 50/50 is not enough. There has to be a bigger margin than that in terms of the percentage rate.

“Thursday night was just too big a game. If he’s not 100 per cent, if he’s 99 per cent, you’re still looking for Roofe to be at his best.

“Let’s face it, he’s in a confident moment because of the way he’s ended the season for Rangers. You can see the difference in his game, his little flicks, his one-touch stuff. He always has good movement trying to get in the box.

“He’s definitely a man who has looked down on his luck to a guy who’s playing with great confidence. It’d be really good if he’s 100 per cent.”

Roofe has netted 16 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Light Blues are also without Alfredo Morelos for the rest of the campaign.
