Rangers news: Fresh twist touted in Connor Goldson contract talks after new development – pundit

Alex McLeish has suggested the opportunity to win trophies at Rangers could convince Connor Goldson to commit to a new contract.

The former Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Sunday’s semi-final win over Celtic may have “whetted Goldson’s appetite” to stay at Ibrox.

The 29-year-old’s current terms expire at the end of the season.

Rangers

Speaking to Sky Sports in February, club chief Stewart Robertson confirmed Ross Wilson is in talks with players who will be out of contract and that work on new deals will take place over the coming months.

McLeish suggested there is “still a bit of talking to be done” between Goldson and the club.

However, he claimed cup glory could convince the defender to put pen to paper.

“Let’s not jump to conclusions at the moment,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I still feel there’s still a bit of talking to be done. Connor loves his career at Ibrox so far and, probably, that victory would have whetted his appetite.

“Now they have a cup final to go and try to win against a resurgent Hearts. Great credit to Hearts, they’ve had a really, really good season as well.

“It should be a great final. If Rangers can win that one, they’ve not won a domestic cup for a wee while now.

“Connor Goldson, perhaps, will feel the pleasure of winning again. He may want to do it again.”

Rangers

Goldson has played 53 times across all competitions for Rangers this term.

Last season’s Premiership winner’s medal was the first silverware the defender has picked up during his senior career.
