Rangers news: Glasgow pundit claims Borna Barisic could be binned after what he's seen
Alan Hutton has claimed Borna Barisic’s defensive frailties could see him dropped for Calvin Bassey at Rangers.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old has been “caught out” in recent games against Celtic and RB Leipzig.
Barisic was caught on his heels during the Old Firm draw against the Hoops last Sunday (1 May) – allowing Jota to nip in and score from Daizen Maeda’s cross at the back post.
The Croatia international dropped a similarly costly clanger during the Ibrox club’s 3-0 loss against Celtic in February.
Rangers reportedly rebuffed a £2million offer from Watford for Barisic during the January window.
Hutton claimed the left-back could find himself dropped once Bassey is able to return to a full-back berth.

He told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “In this day and age, you have to do both – attack and defend.
“But first and foremost, you have to be sound defensively. That’s your job, you’re a defender.
“If you can go forward and put in 10 quality crosses, then brilliant – but you’re there to defend.
“The Celtic goal game from him in the Old Firm derby – and the same thing happened at Parkhead in the last game, too. He’s switched off.
“His body shape was wrong. Even against Leipzig, there was a couple of instances where his body was all wrong and he could have been caught out.
“I like Bassey as a full-back. Moving forward, I think he gives you everything you need – and he’s getting better going forward too.”
Barisic is under contract at Rangers until May 2024.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man has made 40 appearances this term.
