Rangers news: Hutton ‘feels sorry for’ Amad Diallo after footage emerges

Rangers loanee Amad Diallo will come back into the starting eleven “better off” after netting a brace in a behind-the-scenes friendly against Brentford.

That is the view of former Gers defender Alan Hutton, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “brilliant” 19-year-old.

Footage posted by The Every Other Saturday podcast on Twitter (22 February) shows Diallo beating a Brentford defender before slamming a shot past the helpless Bees shot-stopper.

As per Rangers club media (21 February), the Ivorian winger netted a brace as the Ibrox side claimed a 2-2 draw against Premier League Brentford in a behind-closed-doors bounce game on Monday.

Hutton claimed the youngster can now “thrive” after suffering an “eyes wide open” moment in the Old Firm loss against Celtic.

“I do feel sorry for him,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“We can obviously see that he’s a talented young man. He’s come up from Man United – big price tag, big profile.

“I just think it was an eyes wide open moment for him against Celtic, he realised just how hard it can be in Scotland after hitting the ground running against Ross County.

“The manager has just taken him out of the firing line and is being careful with him now. He’s going to have to manage him but confidence-wise, he’s been brilliant.

“He’ll come into the team better off having taken that opportunity to play minutes and score goals.

“I’m sure he’ll thrive after that because the manager is using him well.”

Diallo scored on his Rangers debut but has been benched following his half-time withdrawal against Celtic earlier this month.

The Gers face a second-leg tie against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday with a 4-2 aggregate lead.
