Rangers news: McAvennie slams ’embarrassing’ Kemar Roofe claim
Kemar Roofe was “a bit embarrassing” for suggesting that Rangers could win the quadruple next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie urged Roofe to do his “talking on the pitch” rather than make such bold claims.
The 31-year-old, when it was put to him that he could leave the club as a treble-winner, claimed the Gers “could do the quadruple next season.”
Roofe’s future at Ibrox remains in question, with Football Insider revealing (10 March) that the club are prepared to let him leave as a free agent at the end of the season and sign an A-list replacement.
Rangers star Kemar Roofe must “do his talking on the pitch”
McAvennie admitted that Rangers could very well clinch all possible trophies next season, but urged Roofe to stay humble and avoid “cheap” remarks.
“Like I say with all football players – do your talking on the pitch,” he told Football Insider.
“We’ve all done it where you fling out remarks, but I used to get in trouble with my managers when I did that.
“Do your talking on the pitch.
“James Tavernier has learned to shut his mouth now because he’d come out and say Rangers were better than Celtic – then they’d lose!
“It’s a bit embarrassing [for Roofe] to say that.
“They might go and win it and fair play to them.

“I’ve said the same thing about Liam Scales and other Celtic players – do your talking on the pitch.
“Talk is cheap.”
