Rangers news: Robinson hails ‘brilliant news’ from Ibrox as Celtic issue statement

Paul Robinson is over the moon to hear Rangers plan to allow Celtic fans into the next Old Firm game at Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one hopes to “never see” away fans absent from such fixtures again.

The first two games between Rangers and Celtic this season exclusively took place in front of home fans.

In an interview with Sky Sports (15 February) on Tuesday, Gers managing director Stewart Robertson claimed there will be away fans at the remaining two Old Firm matches this season.

However, on Twitter (17 February), Celtic responded by stating the club “determines the allocation for visiting teams at Celtic Park.”

The statement added that allocations for future matches, including Rangers trip to Parkhead later this year, will be decided “at the appropriate time.”

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “The Old Firm game is amazing.

“You ask any Rangers or Celtic fan and they would want the away fans in there. Although I’m sure Rangers fans were glad that they missed the last one!

“The fans are key to these fixtures. We all know the history behind the two clubs. The Old Firm is special. Everybody in world football wants to go and watch an Old Firm.

“That is because of the fans and the atmosphere. They are the ones that make it special.

“It’s brilliant news that the fans are coming back and hopefully we never see this sort of thing happen again.”
