Rangers news: Pundit slams ‘horrible’ James Sands as new details emerge
Frank McAvennie has slammed “horrible” James Sands for his comments following his Rangers departure.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker hates to see players who criticise the quality of the Scottish top flight when they move on.
After arriving in Glasgow last January, the 22-year-old made 41 appearances for the Gers across all competitions during his loan spell and managed to score once in those outings.
He returned to New York City FC last month after seeing his game time under Michael Beale limited.
Since his return stateside, Sands has featured seven times for the American club.
As quoted by footballscotland (18 April), Sands claimed that he was never really tested whilst playing for the Light Blues and said it is nice to have a “challenge” now that he is back in the MLS.
McAvennie couldn’t believed the USA international’s comments.
“He was hopeless,” he told Football Insider.
“He has got a talent of course he does but he got caught out umpteen times.
“It is a shame because Scottish football is good but it is terrible when players go away and criticise it.

“In Scotland players get right into your face, you have got to be super sharp because you do not get time.
“A lot of people can’t hack it. I think it is horrible and disrespectful for Sands to do that. He could not hack it and now he is claiming it is not for him.“
