Rangers next manager: ‘Sean Dyche to make his decision after talks’

Sean Dyche will make a decision about whether he is prepared to take over from Philippe Clement at Rangers after holding initial talks with the club.

That is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Dyche would be a good fit for the role if he was interested.

He explained Rangers are set to contact potential options to establish their interest in the role – while Barry Ferguson has been chosen to lead the team on an interim basis.

Clement was sacked at Ibrox in the wake of a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, while they remain 13 points behind Celtic in the SPFL and are out of the Scottish Cup.

Financial concerns have been an ongoing issue which have resulted in limited transfer spending, while backroom changes have caused problems with stability.

As a result, former Burnley goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Dyche would be the ideal next manager for Rangers given his previous experience at Everton.

During his spell at Goodison Park, the manager dealt with numerous financial issues, boardroom concerns amid takeover talks, and a points deduction, but his team stayed afloat.

Rangers to approach Sean Dyche about manager’s job

Brown told Football Insider that prospective new owners 49ers Enterprises will play a key role in hiring Rangers’ next manager and are holding internal talks to identify targets.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working alongside elite managers including the likes of Ferguson, Ron Atkinson and David Moyes, has insisted that Dyche will be the one to make the decision about whether he wants the job.

I think Dyche would be a good fit for the job,” he told Football Insider.

“Whether he wants to have a longer break before jumping back into management, that’s a decision he’ll have to make.

“He’ll be going into similar problems to what he had at Everton with the off-field issues.

“There’s a lack of real quality in the squad, and the best way to deal with that in terms of being competitive is to be so well-organised that you remove a lot of their weaknesses.

“That’s what he did at Everton and I could see him doing something similar at Rangers.

They’re going to be working hard behind the scenes to identify the right man for the job.

They’ll draft a shortlist of options and then hold talks with them to see whether they’re interested and go from there.

“So if Dyche is one of the candidates they speak to, it will be his decision then about whether he wants the job or wants to spend a bit longer out of the game.”

Steven Gerrard open to sensational return to Ibrox

Alongside Dyche, Rangers are considering a number of potential options to take over from Clement and interim boss Ferguson at the end of the season.

Football Insider revealed in January that Steve Cooper, Derek McInnes, Russell Martin and Kevin Muscat were all in the running amid growing pressure on the boss.

More recently, Brown told Football Insider that Steven Gerrard is open to returning to Rangers after leaving the club to join Aston Villa in 2021.

There is a belief that he has retained strong connections at Ibrox and would immediately win over the support of the fans – something the previous boss failed to do.
