Rangers plan for James Tavernier revealed after fan backlash – sources
Rangers will block an exit for James Tavernier this week as they have no opportunity to replace him, sources have told Football Insider.
Trabzonspor and Besiktas are reportedly interested in landing the right-back with the Turkish window open until 13 September.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard, have also been linked but their window has already closed.
Sources say Rangers have responded to fan backlash against captain Tavernier by insisting he is not for sale at this time.
However, it is believed a sale could be reconsidered in January if the right offer arrives for his services.
The Scottish window is currently closed and there is no opportunity for Philippe Clement’s side to replace the defender – and they are unwilling to weaken their squad.
Rangers could reconsider Tavernier sale in January
Fans have voiced their displeasure with the right-back’s displays this term – with one supporter labelling him a “loser” outside Ibrox in the aftermath of their 3-0 defeat against Celtic.
But Tavernier was the club’s top scorer last season and Rangers could only replace him in the free agent market if he were to leave now.

He is under contract at Ibrox until June 2026 and next year will mark 10 years since he joined the club from Wigan.
The Englishman has already played seven times this term, notching two assists.
