Rangers player ratings v Aberdeen: MOTM is 9/10 after solid victory

COMMENT
Rangers returned to action after the winter break on Wednesday night when they hosted Aberdeen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership, running out comfortable 2-0 winners.
Gers manager Graeme Murty named three of his four January signings in his starting XI to take on the Dons with Russell Martin, Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy all given Ibrox debuts – the Gers’ fourth signings, Jason Cummings, had to settle for a second-half appearance from the bench.
Murty’s side went into the game knowing a win would lift them over the Dons into second-place in the league on goal difference.
The Gers dominated much of the early going and took the lead midway through the first-half when prolific Colombian Alfredo Morelos headed home James Tavernier’s cross.
After the break, Murty’s side continued to maintain the pressure on Aberdeen and were only denied by some strong defensive work by the Dons.
Rangers finally made it 2-0 when Joe Lewis cleaned out Josh Windass in the box and gave away a penalty.
Tavernier coolly slotted the spot-kick away after lengthy treatment to Lewis.
The Dons tried to muster a comeback but were denied by a solid Rangers defence who racked up a third consecutive clean sheet.
The Gers will be happy with to have picked up a third successive win over the Dons and overtaking the Pittodrie side in the Scottish Premiership table.
